Anima Phonics is a full synthetic phonics programme, delivering the core criteria for an effective phonics teaching programme, as outlined by the Department for Education. ​

What do our results show?

Anima Phonics works!


​Our trial school tracked reading ability throughout the year.

At the end of Reception, each child was asked to read a selection of three-phoneme words and non-words.

​In the class taught using Anima Phonics, they achieved an average 81% success rate.

Digraphs Make a Difference

The results were clear. Children taught using Anima Phonics had a 73% success rate for reading words containing digraphs. In the other four classes, the average success rate was 28%.

Examples of real words tested: 
​CVC words: cat, dog, pig, hen.
With digraphs: boat, car, sheep, wait.

Anima Phonics introduces digraphs far earlier than in other programmes. Teaching digraphs early leads directly to greater word-reading ability.
